Geared toward those who want to learn new innovative techniques in the field, courses include discussions regarding arctic oil spill response techniques, advanced oil spill response, basics of dispersant use, and weather forecasting for emergency response.  Please note that you have to register for short courses separately; see our Short Courses web page.

Celebrate the official start of the conference and opening of the exhibition!  Enjoy refreshments and get to know those with whom you’ll be spending the rest of the week and take a sneak peak at the exhibits.

Film Festival
Not only do you have great sessions to look forward to during the week, including guest speakers the likes of John Chatterton and Richie Kohler from the History Channel’s Deep Sea Detectives, but the annual Film Festival and Luncheon are our most popular events; see our Film Festival web page.

Our invited speaker for the Luncheon is Captain Heidemarie M. Stefanyshyn-Piper, NASA Astronaut and a member of the six-person Atlantis’ STS-115 crew.  The Film Festival will feature short films submitted by agencies, organizations and individuals in the areas of oil spill related training, education and res­toration as well as response and operations activities.

Join us for our first annual International Oil Spill Conference Gala in the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa. 

This is your chance to get to know your colleagues outside of the office arena.  Enjoy our cocktail reception and then the three course meal.  You also can’t miss Atlanta Rhythm & Groove, our evening entertainment.  Performing everything from big band music to soul and R&B, Atlanta Rhythm & Groove will have you out of your seats and onto the dance floor.

Savannah has plenty of activities to offer visitors.  From kayaking, sailing and jet skiing, to walking tours of Savannah’s historical district and fantastic Southern cuisine, this is one city you’ll definitely want to explore.

Old Fort Jackson was named after the Georgia governor and Revolutionary War soldier James Jackson.  Headquarters of the Confederate Savannah River defenses in the American Civil War, the fort is the oldest standing brick fortification in Georgia.  Admission to the fort is $4.25 for adults and is open from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum (shipsofthesea.org/)

Housed in the former home of William Scarbrough, the president of the Savannah Steamship Company, the museum includes exhibits of ship models, and maritime antiques.  Most of the artifacts are from the 18th and 19th centuries, when trade between England and America was at its peak.

One of Savannah’s most popular attractions, the Telfair Museum houses art from American Impressionists Childe Hassam, Frederick Frieseke, and Gari Melchers, as well the largest visual art collection by Kahlil Gibran, Lebanese author of The Prophet.  The museum also features 14 temporary exhibitions annually.  Please check the Telfair Museum of Art website for upcoming exhibitions.

Local Events
Even though you might be in Savannah for work…why not have some fun while you’re here.  Don’t miss these local annual events.  These events are hugely popular and locals look forward their return year after year*!

Savannah Scottish Games - Saturday, May 3 (www.savannahscottishgames.com/)
Celebrate and take a glimpse at Scottish culture by participating in this unique festival.  Events include Highland dancing, whiskey tasting, a Scottish marketplace, and Scottish musical acts.  Don’t forget the Scottish Heavy Athletics competitions and classes, featuring stone throwing, sheaf tossing, weight tossing, and caber turning.
