IOSC Conference Workshop Subcommittee - Hot Topic Panel Discussion |
Assessment of Oil Spill Response Capabilities: International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) Workshop Subcommittee presents a proposed Oil Spill Response (OSR) planning and preparedness assessment tool for application worldwide by industry and government. This topic will be presented in a panel session on Thursday afternoon, 8 May. The Subcommittee has prepared both a manuscript and a larger report which were refined during an IOSC Special Workshop: Assessment of Oil Spill Response Capabilities held on 3 December 2007 in Gamboa, Panama. |

There are few guidelines in the spill response community for the comprehensive assessment of response capability. Most OSR lists are focused on the content of OSR contingency plans, which is indeed fundamental for preparedness but falls short of actual implementation. The IOSC Workshop Subcommittee presents a suite of planning and readiness assessment topics for broad application to encourage improved response capacity by aiding development and maintenance of response management systems from a site level to a multi-national level. The report is available for download in Adobe Acrobat format in both English and Spanish versions.
