The International Oil Spill Conference contributes to and enables a culture of preparedness within the oil spill response community, the broader field of incident management, and society as a whole.

It provides a forum for professionals from the international community, the private sector, government, and non-governmental organizations to highlight and discuss innovations and best practices across the spectrum of prevention, preparedness, response and restoration.

 

IOSC 2011 Film Festival


The International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) will again host a Film Festival as part of the 21st Triennial International Oil Spill Conference, May 23-26, 2011 in Portland, Oregon, USA.

The Oregon Convention Center is the site as the IOSC and Film Festival soars into its fourth decade of scientific presentations, new activities and events. The 2008 conference in Savannah, GA was attended by more that 1,600 oil spill experts from 53 countries around the world that participated in technical sessions, training courses and viewed the on-water demonstration and more than 250 exhibits.

The 2008 IOSC Film Festival drew twenty-five entries from seven countries. The 2011 Film Festival will spotlight the two winning entries from the 2008 conference.

1. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Emergency Response Program - "Safe Sanctuaries 2005". Lisa Symons, NOAA, Office of National Marine Sanctuaries. This video document the emergency response exercise called "Safe Sanctuaries 2005" that was conducted in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary April 20-21, 2005.

2. StatoilHydro - "Emergency Response 2008". Mr. Trond Eliassen, News On Request and Mr. Jan Erik Fester, StatoilHydro. This video examines StatoilHydro's emergency response organization.

Submission Process: We invite interested agencies, organizations, companies, as well as individual participants to submit films to be shown. Videos should be current, applicable to the 2011 IOSC conference theme and not more than 30 minutes in length. The IOSC seeks any combination of inventive, incisive, and innovative work that compliments the conference. Suggested topics include oil spill related training, education, restoration as well as response and operations activities. Entries must be submitted on CD or DVD in North American format (NTSC). Each entry must be on a separate CD or DVD. No marketing oriented media will be considered.

Agencies, organizations or individuals submitting a video must provide a representative or a written introduction that can be read prior to its presentation. Display space will be available for literature and handout information that supports your presentation. The IOSC must receive your entry by April 11, 2011 for it to be reviewed and placed on the Film Festival agenda. Please send your submissions to:

Selection Process: Submissions should be high quality productions worthy of placement in the Film Festival. All entries are pre-screened for eligibility. Each work is judged solely on its own merits for originality, quality, content, and adherence to conference themes. Awards will be given for the best video presentations at the Film Festival.

Receipt Acknowledgement: To receive acknowledgement of receipt of your entry into the Film festival, you must enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope or postcard with your submission.

Agreement: Submission of an entry to the Film Festival confirms that the 2011 IOSC has permission to show and exhibit it during the conference.
